ABU SAYYAF MEMBER NABBED IN ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY

Philippine, March 5, 2019: A member of the Abu Sayyaf Group was arrested by authorities in Zamboanga Sibugay before dawn on Monday.

Maldimar Mahmor was arrested by joint forces from the Philippine Army's 44th Infantry Battalion and the Philippine National Police at 1 a.m. in Barangay Madaup in the municipality of Ipil.
.
According to a press release of the Philippine Army's 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division, Mahmor is a kidnapper who worked under Sulu-based Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Idang Susukan who in turn followed Galib Andang alias Commander Robot.

Armed with a search warrant, authorities went to the place where Mahmor was staying and conducted a search operation.
.
Recovered during the operation were one caliber .38 revolver, one hand grenade, one M-16 magazine with ammunition, and one rocket-propelled grenade ammunition.

Mahmor will face charges of violation of Republic Act No. 10591 (illegal possession of firearms and ammunition).

“He currently serves as the ASG’s liaison and facilitator in its kidnapping activities in the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur,” Lieutenant Colonel Don Templonuevo,  44th Infantry Battalion commander, said.

Reports said Mahmor participated in the Sipadan kidnapping in 2000 where 21 people were abducted, among them tourists from Europe and Malaysia, as well as Filipinos working at the resort in Malaysia.
