JAISH-E-MOHAMMED (JeM)

Jaish-e-Mohammed or JeM is a Pakistan based terrorist group whose primary motive is to separate Kashmir from India and merge it with Pakistan. Since it's inception in 2000, the terror outfit has carried out several attacks in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It projects Kashmir as a "gateway" to the entire India, whose Muslims are also deemed to be in need of liberation. After liberating Kashmir, it aims to carry its ‘jihad’ to other parts of India, with an intent to drive Hindus and other non-Muslims from the Indian subcontinent.

The group has been held accused for carrying out deadly attacks on Pathankot airbase in January, 2016 and also on an Armycamp in Uri in September, 2016. The attacks claimed the lives of 23 security personnel. The group also assisted Lashkar-e-Taiba in the 2001 Indian parliament attacks. It has links with several terror outfits such as Taliban and Al-Qaida. Their current leader is Masood Azhar. The group although, banned in Pakistan since 2002 has surfaced under many other names and continues to operate in the country.

India has called for UN action against LeT and JeM and “their shadowy supporters”. On February 14, 2019, JeM's men carried out the deadly attack in Pulwama which left 40 CRPF jawans dead. On February 26, 2019, at 0330 hours, a group of Mirage 2000 Indian Fighter jets destroyed the major terrorist camps across the LoC.
