ZAMBOANGA CITY – Suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) kidnapped a public school teacher in front of the Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Jolo, Sulu, Friday, just minutes after she attended mass in the capital town of Sulu.
Police Regional Office for Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) Director Police Brig Gen Froilan F Quidilla identified the victim as Rosina Ejansantos Singua, 58, married, a public school teacher at the Culianan Elementary School and a resident of Zone 5, Barangay, Culianan in this city.
Police major Chester Natividad, chief of the Culianan police station said Singua left her residence last Friday, September 27, together with her woman friend a certain “EMS” to attend a wedding in Dipolog City.
It was not known how Singua and her companion reached Jolo in Sulu province, hotbed of the ASG in ZamBaSulTa (Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu and Tawi-Tawi) area.
Sherwin Ejansantos Singua, son of Rosina who is now in Manila, received a call from her mother (Rosina) last Saturday at about 9:23pm, informing him that she was kidnapped by armed men in front of the Mt Carmel Catholic Church located at Barangay Walled City in Jolo, Sulu, Saturday.
Sherwin told police probers that his mother informed him that the kidnappers had brought him to an unknown place in the hinterland of Sulu province and was demanding a certain amount of money as ransom in exchange for her safe release from captivity.
