This is an encouragement to speak what is good and beneficial; at the same time, it is a warning, cautioning us to be careful in what we say, lest we say something that is harmful or false.
.
Surah Al Baqarah, verse 83:
- And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allah; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give zakah." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.
.
It is part of a Muslim’s faith to speak the truth and to say things that bring about benefit to others. Good words will allow you to see the goodness of others and hence you have no hatred instilled in your heart.
