The air task force of the military, which carried out the raid on Wednesday, also decimated the major assembly area of Boko Haram at Ngoske, a location on the fringes of the Sambisa forest in the northern state of Borno, said Ibikunle Daramola, the air force’s spokesman, in a statement reaching Xinhua in Abuja.
.
Daramola declined to give the accurate figure of Boko Haram militants killed in the raid. However, he said over 30 Boko Haram militants were spotted near a large building by other smaller structures at which the air force detailed its airstrikes to attack.
.
“The operation was conducted pursuant to credible intelligence reports indicating that the settlement was one of the locations being used by the terrorists as a staging area from where they launch attacks against troops positions in the southern part of the (Borno) state,” the spokesman said.
.
He said other terrorists who attempted to flee the location in disarray were mopped-up in follow-on attacks by the fighter jets. The Nigerian air force, operating in concert with surface forces, would sustain its operations against the terrorists in the northeast region, he added.
.
The northeast region has been destabilized for over a decade by Boko Haram, which most notoriously kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls in 2014. Boko Haram is known for its agenda to maintain a virtual caliphate in the most populous African country.
